If the hardware supports it, the feature be added in the software if many people are interested by this feature. Once included, you can get the new firmware with Wifi connection.
If the hardware doesn’t support it, it might be possible to add the feature with an expansion board, but it’s more complicated.

Do I need to change my controller or the cable of the controller ?
If you already use a supported controller, no.
For Minimotors controllers, you can even use the stock cable.
For other controllers, you need to change the cable between the controller and the SmartDisplay.
Yes, you can older cables. For throttle and brake, you will have to cut wires or order a pre-cabled version.
I personally prefer the Wuxing 270X.
